Adopt and Artist Weekend Exhibit and Reception
The public is invited to the First Annual Adopt-an-Artist Art Exhibit, Sale and Appreciation for Arts Council Board Member and Adopt an Artist coordinator Sally Lumpkin’s vision and efforts in getting this program moving so successfully throughout the county.
When: Fri Nov 14, 5-8pm is the Opening reception for artists and business sponsors. Public art show is Saturday 10-4 and Sunday 12-4.
Where: Beneath The Palms Art Gallery, 5058 Arendell St, (across Hwy 70 from Sonic)
This is a great opportunity to meet the businesses that have sponsored this fantastic county-wide arts initiative and the 31 local artists who are sharing their art with the community.
The Arts Council of Carteret County’s “Adopt an Artist” program is growing in popularity across the county. Businesses contacting ACCC to participate. “It is so exciting to learn that a business has heard of the program and contacts US to be a part of it ” says Sally Lumpkin, ACCC Board member and Administrator of the program.
There are currently 31 artists and 33 businesses participating, so the community can view the artwork displays from Beaufort to Cape Carteret. Shanna Olmstead, co-owner of Floyd’s 1921 Restaurant, along with her husband Floyd, recently stated that they have people who visit their restaurant just to see the Adopt an Artist work. As supporters of the arts, Shanna says “I think that’s just great! We welcome them to come in to the restaurant and look around at the art”.

The Grassroots sub grantees must be a non-profit and must match the funds we give them. This year the Arts Council of Carteret County gave a total of 12,355.00 dollars to six non-profits in Carteret County.

Grassroots funding leans heavily toward programs for children and programs that are multi cultural.

History Place Director Les Ewing adopted local painter Sally Anger and woodworker Dick Wray earlier this year and hosted a reception for the artists.
