Dear Sir:
I am an Ohio resident, however I am in love with North Carolina. Can someone who lives outside the area join the Arts Council? I had the opportunity to visit no long ago and would like to become a member.
I have been a working photographer (newspaper) for two decades. But, I am inspired by North Carolina and it’s beauty. My hope is to be living there in short order.
I noticed many artists work was featured at the gallery. Have you ever had an artist that wasn’t from the area, but returns to be inspired and creates images of the area.
Thank you,
Michael K. Dakota

I will drop off my application for the “Adopt an Artist Program” tomorrow…. However…..
I do not have framed works for retale sale….
What I am offering is a “decorated wall” with a varitety of quality photography – different sizes and styles of work.
This will be for display only, as I am interested in commissioned work…. not retail sails.
Vence at Sunshine Cleaners on US-24 is interested in having me decorate a wll behind their sales counter.
I would like to do this, and leave business cards for anyone interested in my work.
I can change or re-arrange our display as often as he would like.
We would like to do this under the Adopt an Artist Program – ACCC
This display would be a Photo Collage Grouping as each image is mountd as a “free-floating” independant image… three-dimentional … verticals and horizontals will be overlapping each other and arranged for over all composition. It will be a variety of work and a variety of sizes. However…. I will not know which ones will be used or the sizes of each one, until the unit is compleated… To to do this requires, time, patience, and careful arrangement.
Once it is compelated…. I could give you an inventory of images and sizes used. For that matter I could send you a photograph of the compleated project!

Thanks for the posting, Patrick. You and your hanging crew did a splendid job!
This year will display 347 pieces of original artwork, many of which are for sale.
Also, the student show sponsored by the Carteret County public schools is almost hung and it looks great. Clearly, we have some very talented young artists in the area.
Remember, admission to the show is free, beginning Saturday, Feb. 16th at 6:00 pm.

We are still looking for artists to participate in the Arts Council’s Adopt an Artist program.
With 21 businesses participating, and others expressing interest to do so, we just do not have enough work to display. Please consider becoming a part of this program. Forms are located on our website; http://www.artscouncilcarteret.org.
Businesses are looking for all types of artwork. With tourist season now beginning, some have recently expressed an interest in coastal scenes. Others have stated they’d like “large” pieces. Some have said they’d like “bold colors”. Others are interested in “groupings”. Some want two dimensional, others want three dimensional, and still others want both. In short, we have an audience for most everything.
Many of the participating businesses will be making their selections for the next display cycle (which will be May/June) in mid April. Send in your application packages by the middle of April so that your work may be included in those that are up for adoption.
You may submit as little as one piece of artwork. The program guidelines suggest “up to 8″, but if you have a few more than that, that’s OK too. Prints are acceptable in this program as well. Adopt an Artist is to assist you in getting your work seen. You may submit whatever you would like to. Give it a try!
For questions, contact Sally Lumpkin at sally@promiselandphoto.com or 252.659.0253.

Patrick,
Have you folks ever considered doing a public art project featuring Fiberglass animals or objects Painted (or otherwise embellished) by your local talent, put out on the streets for the summer, and then auctioned off at the end of summer?

I sat the AFH show Tuesday 24th in morning. Twice I was asked by visitors if I had a bio on some of the artists I was able to answer some of their questions. I thought maybe in the future the artists could provide a couple of bios for the show. This could lead to more sales who knows, it makes the artwork even more interesting I think. Just a suggestion.

I have a 10yr old who needs guidance in art. My dad in Florida is an artist and it runs pretty deep in the family. I am looking for more than just the average bi-weekly “activity.” The little girl is pretty good and I am tired of hearing from everyone that I MUST get her into an art program. She really needs a mentor in art. Any time there is an art display at her school (clay, paint, pencil-free hand, craft, etc.) she always has something that wins an award. She even has teachers at her after school care that posts her stuff in their office with her signature knowing that she will be something one day. (Wait a minute, I am not pushing her towards this, I am actually tired of hearing so much about it from her teachers and other students. I am a police officer and do not get to see her that much in the evening. I know that the kid can draw very well. People used to think that I had a daughter in high school from her drawings while we were in Japan. I had her in an art class in Japan and was told that they could not do anything else with her. The kid was showing them tricks and stuff. What am I supposed to do?) We will be moving down to the Newport area in May from Virginia. (military family, finished moving) If there is anything I can do from here or can talk to anyone please refer my “case.”
Respectfully,
C. Grimes
