Welcome to the Arts Council of Carteret County Blog
Carteret County has a wealth of artists and artistic events. If you have an art event that you would like us to post, or if you want more information please contact us at: artscarteret@yahoo.com or call us at (252) 726 – 9156.
The Arts Council of Carteret County was formed in February of 1974.
Our mission is to expand, promote and nurture the arts, honor traditional culture, and welcome creativity. This mission is accomplished through organization, communication, facilitation and support of artists as well as arts organizations and educational projects and has been the motivating force behind our 501(c)3 agency for it’s 30 years of existence.

We coordinate several artistic events throughout the year, including Art from the Heart, the Candlelight Art Tour, and Student Art Shows.
In addition, we participate with 22 other counties in offering Regional Artist Project Grants. This North Carolina Arts Council (NCAC) sponsored grant provides funds to individual artists in the county.
We also provide funding to county non-profit organizations for arts related projects as a part of the NCAC Grassroots Arts Program.

ACCC held a summer art camp for 10-15 year olds this past August. Presently, that is the only “class” on our schedule.

Nicole,
ACCC offers a “student” membership level. As a member of ACCC, you would be eligible to participate in our Adopt an Artist program. Info on this program is located on this website.

I have a 10yr old who needs guidance in art. My dad in Florida is an artist and it runs pretty deep in the family. I am looking for more than just the average bi-weekly “activity.” The little girl is pretty good and I am tired of hearing from everyone that I MUST get her into an art program. She really needs a mentor in art. Any time there is an art display at her school (clay, paint, pencil-free hand, craft, etc.) she always has something that wins an award. She even has teachers at her after school care that posts her stuff in their office with her signature knowing that she will be something one day. (Wait a minute, I am not pushing her towards this, I am actually tired of hearing so much about it from her teachers and other students. I am a police officer and do not get to see her that much in the evening. I know that the kid can draw very well. People used to think that I had a daughter in high school from her drawings while we were in Japan. I had her in an art class in Japan and was told that they could not do anything else with her. The kid was showing them tricks and stuff. What am I supposed to do?) We will be moving down to the Newport area in May from Virginia. (military family, finished moving) If there is anything I can do from here or can talk to anyone please refer my “case.”
Respectfully,
C. Grimes
