This year’s Art from the Heart exhibit was the location for this months Business After Hours. Approximately 300 local business people and arts council members enjoyed this months event.

Over 300 artists and their families and friends of the arts attended the 20th Anniversary of Art From the Heart. The spacious venue of the old Shore Decor building was perfect for this years exhibit that has close to 450 entries. This is 100 more than last year’s exhibit and the biggest show the Arts Council has ever had. The arts are certainly alive in Carteret County and this year’s show is testament to the incredible creative talent in Carteret County. Here are some photos taken opening night by Patrick Keough.

The show is open through February 27th and will also be the site for the Chamber of Commerce Business After hours on February 18th. Please make it a point to see this incredible show. You won’t be disappointed! The children’s art show is also featured as well.

Artists are encouraged to pass this information along to other artists who may be interested in participating in this show. The show is open to artists from Carteret, Craven, Pamlico and Onslow counties. Artists are encouraged but not required to be members of the Arts Council of Carteret County.

Please note:
The Carteret County Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly social, Business After Hours, at the site of this year’s show on Thursday, February 18th. The event is open to members and non-members of the Chamber. Tickets are three dollars each. For tickets, please call contact the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce.

Art Camp Coordinator Patrick Keough Demonstrates Digital Printing to the Kids

The Arts Council of Carteret County is offering grants to Carteret County local groups to support arts and cultural programming. These grants will be used to financially assist groups in providing quality arts programming to the citizens of Carteret County. Grassroots grants are intended to fund particular arts projects that will be completed by June 30, 2009. Programs can focus on theatre, music, dance, writing, folk-life, or the visual arts. The Arts Council of Carteret County and the North Carolina Arts Council Grassroots Arts Program support the program; additional funding is received from the National Endowment for the Arts.

“The Grassroots Arts Program is one of the best ways to support organizations who are supporting the arts,” says Pam Cooper, president of the Arts Council of Carteret County. Applicants may be either arts organizations or community service organizations that develop arts projects for the general public or for traditionally underserved audiences. Applicants must be nonprofit organizations that have federal 501(c) tax-exempt status or units of local government, civic clubs, churches, schools, theatre groups, arts festivals, boys and girls clubs, libraries, senior citizens’ centers, parks and recreation departments, and other community-based groups.

A grants panel consisting of Carteret County residents will read and select grants to be funded. Awards are decided by assessing the overall impact of the program to be funded to the citizens of Carteret County, the overall excellence of the program, and its practicality.

A Record Breaking Crowd for Business After Hours

The Chamber of Commerce teamed up with the Arts Council and had their Business After Hours event at Art From the Heart. Michael A. Wagoner, President of the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce said it best in an e-mail sent to all chamber members.

“I am not sure what the final attendance tally from last night will be…but it was nothing short of fantastic. Many, many compliments from the attendees!
